Life of a Space Explorer
Reaching The Moon...
INFORMATION
NASA’s deep space transportation systems are in the final stages of testing before integration. The Artemis I and Artemis II flight tests will validate rocket and spacecraft performance and set America on a course to once again return astronauts to the Moon. NASA will also work with commercial partners to build landers and conduct risk-reducing tests in the lead-up to the landings on the Artemis III mission and beyond.
LIFE OF A SPACE EXPLORER
Space Explorers have different roles when carrying out space missions. The commander is the person in charge who ultimately makes the most important decisions on a space mission. The pilot works closely alongside the commander. Other space explorers take on the role of mission specialist, in which they utilize special skills or a specific area of knowledge. Space explorers also perform many mundane tasks to keep space stations running. The crew cleans and checks equipment and repairs things that have broken. They spend two hours every day exercising, too, in order to keep up with the physical demands of the job.

Artemis Logo Explained
The trajectory moves from left to right through the crossbar of the “A” opposite that of Apollo. Thus highlighting the distinct differences in our return to the moon. The trajectory is red to symbolize our path to Mars.
The Moon is our next destination and a stepping stone for Mars. It is the focus of all Artemis efforts.
The crescent shows missions from our audience’s perspective. From Earth we go. Back to Earth all that we learn and develop will return. This crescent also visualizes Artemis’ bow as the source from which all energy and effort is sent.
The tip of the A of Artemis points beyond the Moon and signifies that our efforts at the Moon are not the conclusion, but rather the preparation for all that lies beyond.

Peaceful Uses
International cooperation on Artemis is intended not only to bolster space exploration but to enhance peaceful relationships between nations. Therefore, at the core of the Artemis Accords is the requirement that all activities will be conducted for peaceful purposes, per the tenets of the Outer Space Treaty.
Protecting Heritage
Protecting historic sites and artifacts will be just as important in space as it is here on Earth.
Release of Scientific Data
Artemis Accords partners will agree to follow NASA’s example, releasing their scientific data publicly to ensure that the entire world can benefit from the Artemis journey of exploration and discovery.
Interoperability
Artemis Accords call for partner nations to utilize open
international standards, develop new standards when necessary, and strive to support interoperability to the greatest extent practical.
